IBM Cloud Paks for Security is the open security solution for the multicloud world.
IBM has announced Cloud Pak for Security, a security solution for the present and future multicloud world. Open source, extensible and capable of operating on heterogeneous infrastructures, promises greater security for data.
IBM expands its range of Cloud Pak, pre-packaged cloud solutions, with Cloud Pak for Security. With this new Pak, IBM offers a tool to counter threats on all possible platforms where companies operate.
IBM Cloud Pak for Security takes security wherever it is needed
The concept behind IBM Cloud Pak for Security is simple: there must be security everywhere, and it must be simple to be able to make a system secure. Using open-source technology developed by IBM, the platform allows you to control possible threats wherever they are: on the public cloud, on the private cloud, on traditional servers or in any combination of these three situations.
Searching for possible problems and keeping possible threats under control becomes increasingly complex not only because criminal activity has intensified, but also because the attack surface has increased and diversified.
If companies once only had to deal with managed servers within their data center, nowadays they must also protect private and public (and hybrid) cloud instances, which can be distributed to different suppliers and with different characteristics. Keeping everything under control becomes complicated because security tools are not made to manage heterogeneous and distributed environments.
IBM Cloud Pak for Security offers a solution that is designed to operate on various and varied platforms, leaving the data where it is and inspecting it for problems. Cloud Pak for Security is natively extendable with new tools and to be compatible with new situations, so that it can evolve with the emergence of new situations where it is possible to keep security under control.
From a technical and technological point of view, IBM Cloud Pak for Security is a containerized solution that relies on Kubernetes and, in particular, on Red Hat OpenShift.
The main strength of IBM Cloud Pak for Security lies in the fact that it is designed to be integrated with security solutions from other companies and to analyze the data where it resides in a unified and centralized manner. This allows corporate security experts to focus on using data rather than how to get it. It is also possible to automate and orchestrate the responses to security incidents, so as to have very low reaction times.
76% of organizations surveyed by IBM said they use between two and 15 hybrid clouds, with 98% predicting that it will increase the number of hybrid clouds in use within three years. Cloud Pak for Security is designed to adapt to these new environments, with a scalability that is intrinsic to the platform, and that allows companies to maintain control of their data and infrastructure even when they move their workloads between cloud platforms.
IBM is working with more than 20 other organizations that are part of the Open Cybersecurity Alliance to create open security standards and open source technologies to provide interoperability between products and reduce vendor lock-in the world of security. Cloud Pak for Security is a part of this commitment.
Mary O’Brien, general manager of IBM Security, said that ” as companies move their mission-critical workloads to hybrid multicloud environments, security information is distributed across different tools, clouds and IT infrastructures. This can create holes that allow threats to go unnoticed, leading security teams to create and maintain complex and expensive integrations and manual threat response plans. With Cloud Pak for Security, we help lay the foundations for a more connected security ecosystem and designed for a multicloud and hybrid world. ”
