Insta360 EVO: The 360° or 180° 3D video camera for everyone
Insta360 EVO is the new camera that can shoot both 360° and 180° in 3D. Dedicated to consumer users, it allows you to connect directly to Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR. Here are the features.
Insta360 EVO is the new solution for the consumer market of the same manufacturer that showed the Insta360 Titan at CES 2019, but dedicated to the professional market (also due to the price of almost 15 thousand dollars). Obviously, Insta360 EVO is completely different, both in design and in specifications, even if it maintains the same intentions.
The new Insta360 EVO focuses on a design with a central joint that allows you to switch from a stereoscopic 3D mode to 180° but by folding it, it becomes a video camera that shoots 360°.
A new app called Insta360 VR, compatible with Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR (with files transferred immediately) has been developed to allow users who buy the new Insta360 EVO to fully enjoy their shots.
Always to help users relive their memories, there is also HoloFrame (sold separately), which is a cover for the smartphone’s display designed to look at images and videos in an immersive way also tracing eye movement. Currently, the compatibility is with iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR and later with Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy Note 8.
But what are the technical specifications of Insta360 EVO? The video camera can shoot video at 5.7K and 180° in 3D or 18 MPixel and 180° photographs (always in 3D). Then bending the two sections you can shoot videos at 5.7K at 360° and photographs at 18 MPixel always at 360°. The optics has an aperture of f/2.2 and you can save the files in jpeg, insv or RAW.
The images are then stabilized via FlowState Stabilization to ensure a clearer view. If the videos are captured in 180° 3D mode, the new Insta360 EVO instead has an advanced stabilization mode that promises miracles thanks to the 6-axis gyroscope.
The dimensions are 98.4 x 49 x 26.27 mm (open in 180° mode) and 50.3 x 49 x 52.54 mm (closed in 360° mode). The weight instead settles on 113 grams. The battery has a capacity of 1,200 mAh and is recharged via microUSB, guaranteeing up to 65 minutes of autonomy.
The TimeShift mode could not be missing, allowing you to create time-lapse and hyper-lapse by controlling both the frame, and the capture mode based on time.
To improve the quality of captured photographs, Insta360 EVO also uses HDR technology for video, both at 180° and 360°. This makes it possible to obtain particularly brilliant colors but also managing to capture moments in which there are areas that are very bright and poorly lit.
The camera uses an app available for iOS and Android that allows you to review movies and photos that can be transferred via Wi-Fi Direct. The indicative price of the Insta360 EVO is equal to $419.99 and can be ordered already now.
