In the differentiation strategy now in place for some time, Intel makes another move with the acquisition of an Israeli company engaged in the development of 3D interactive video solutions.
In recent days, Intel has officially announced the acquisition of Replay Technology, an Israeli startup that deals with 3D video for sports events. The acquisition is the latest move in a series of initiatives that Intel is implementing to differentiate their business over the processor market.
Replay Technologies, founded in 2011, has its headquarters in Tel Aviv and can count a number of operational centers in Dallas and Newark, USA. The company has developed a proprietary video format, Freed, which makes use of high resolution cameras and computationally intensive graphics, allowing viewers to follow a sporting event from any angle.
Intel is working with Replay Technologies since 2013, helping them to optimize the interactive video content on their platforms. ” With the acquisition we will focus on existing activities and the progress of technology with Intel that will bring the Freed faster processing capabilities and new features such as the ability to manipulate and edit custom content” explained Wendell Brooks, senior vice president for Intel the activities of Merger – Acquisitions.
The acquisition is still a very strong signal in the differentiation strategy that Intel has embraced a bit of time now. Moreover, with the slowdown in the semiconductor market, all the organizations that operate in it are looking for alternatives in order to expand their business opportunities.
If Replay Technologies is observed a more consistent approach towards the development of application technologies, rather than activities related to the hardware device level.
