Apple iPad mini with Retina yes or no? If you have one of the first generations is certainly not the problem. The new model with Retina Display, now you’re going to review. It is an almost obligatory for those possessing the old model. Apple has really done a lot for this new generation, who finally shaking off that pesky label entry-level tablet.
Now the new iPad Mini with Retina Display has the same features as the iPad Air (more or less) and a Retina Display on which there will be much to discuss. But let’s start talking about the design.
iPad Mini with Retina Display – Design
No substantive changes to the design for this new iPad Mini with Retina Display. The screen has been more resolute forced Apple to include more than a few millimeters in thickness, but really not much. The same applies to the weight, increased by a few grams.
For the rest, we do not find substantial differences compared to the first-generation model. The old black color disappears though. In its place, we find a gray Sidereal-style iPhone 5s.
iPad Mini with Retina Display – Hardware
The most surprising for the processor. The first-generation model was equipped with the A5 chip, so we all expected a A6 on this model but no. Apple has included in the new iPad Mini with Retina Display of the iPhone 5s the same processor, or an Apple A7 64-bit. The 1, 3 GHz, coupled with 1 GB of RAM, making this tablet agile and efficient, even if the iPad Air is still a step higher thanks to the A7 chip 64-bit 1.4 GHz, which Apple has made specially made for him. The introduction of a processor like this bodes well for the future. Nothing midrange then, but top performance as the 9.7-inch model.
Everyone was stunned when the presentation of the first-generation model, Tim Cook. claimed that the iPad Mini would not have the Retina Display. Many decided not to buy it, because it was certain that this would be the Retina Display on the second-generation model, and so it was. The Retina display mounted on iPad mini second generation has the exact same resolution Retina present on iPad 3/4 and Air, or 2048 × 1536 pixels.
With a solution like this, Apple has saved hours of work for developers, since applications to realize the iPad are also compatible with this new model of iPad mini. Now this iPad Mini with Retina Display has a screen with well 326 PPI, while the top of the range iPad Air has a screen of just 264 PPI. I was astonished to read this data. About 60 PPI in addition, being the same resolution but less compressed in inches.
It’s not all that glitters is gold though. After several days of testing, and after several articles I read on the web, I realized that the Retina Display of the new iPad mini is not the best ever mounted on an iPad. There is indeed a parameter, very important, that Apple has decided to ignore this generation, perhaps to keep the price affordable. We’re talking about the gamut, or range of reproducible colors.
While the iPad Air and iPad 4 possess a Retina Display capable of reproducing 100% of the colors, the iPad mini with Retina display reproduces only 62% of the colors. We are at the same level as the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 to speak.
This smaller amount of reproducible colors we see with some of the icons, which are significantly more dull compared to the same screen on the iPhone 5s. The green is more of Messaging off on iPad mini with Retina, as well as the On / Off buttons.
Battery and All the Rest.
Apple’s designers have done an outstanding job on the battery. We do not find improvements in terms of hours of battery life. I’m always 10 hours of use guaranteed, but obviously a lot has been done to make this battery can ensure the same hours of autonomy than is present in the previous generation, because now there is the Retina Display to complicate things.
Thanks to the tests carried out in the newsroom. We have witnessed firsthand a small masterpiece. The average user, who will buy this iPad Mini next generation will be forced to charge it at least once every two / three days.
Other features include a bad iSight camera 5 megapixel on the back and a FaceTime HD 1.2-megapixel placed on the front. Obviously, you have the classical configurations, or 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, but also a new version by as many as 128 GB. Who will choose the Wi-Fi version Cellular will also be found the ability to use 4G LTE connection.
The Wi-Fi connection supports 802.11 a / b / g / n and Bluetooth is 4.0. Lacks the Touch ID technology for fingerprint recognition view on iPhone 5s. Being the new generation models I was expecting absolutely the introduction of this feature. But no.
If Apple keeps up our sleeve for next year, when it will be printed on billboards to the ” new and revolutionary ” technique to release iPad (obviously are sarcastic). We leave you now with a video review and our final thoughts on the usual, with so much to vote.
