iPhone XS and XR will get an automatic processor limitation function with iOS 13.1
To preserve the performance of some iPhones and to prevent random shutdowns due to battery aging, Apple will introduce a processor limitation function on the iPhone XR and XS.
Apple in 2017 had been accused of planned obsolescence actions, reducing the performance of the old iPhones to allow the phone to have no random stops due to battery aging. All this had caused quite a stir, so much so that Apple had offered battery changes at discounted prices to limit the throttling of the processor and continue to have a device not limited to software.
Subsequently, the Cupertino company offered a new function in its operating system; by updating iOS, Apple had added a setting that allowed these processor limitations to be removed and therefore allowed the user to choose how to use their device in performance. However, the function has an intelligent activation that occurs only after an unexpected shutdown of the iPhone due to battery problems.
Apple said the new iPhone models have more advanced power monitoring hardware, which should reduce the impact of the limitation. This new hardware is mounted by the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, which in any case obtained the function of limitation last year with the release of the big brothers XS and XR.
Even for the new iPhone 11, 9to5Mac has identified a new support page where Apple talks about battery and a ” more advanced ” power management system compared to older phones. The company speaks of an automatic and always active function, suggesting that some versions of the function may be available from the beginning.
History repeats itself and with the next update of iOS version 13.1, even iPhone XS and iPhone XR will get this feature in the event of crashes, could reduce smartphone performance. All battery-powered devices will run into problems with age, as their battery weakens and is no longer able to support the new performance required by apps and the operating system.
Apple implements this for a matter of precaution and maintenance of its smartphones, although for the most mischievous, it can be seen as a way to pass the user to the last model in circulation.
