Jaguar I-Pace, the first fully electric SUV for Jaguar
The new I-PACE allows Jaguar to be at the forefront of electric-powered vehicles. It is the first vehicle to adopt the Jaguar Touch Pro Duo infotainment system.
Jaguar I-Pace is a vehicle designed to make history in terms of power supply, and not just for being the first fully electric SUV in the British home. The car has two electric motors designed by Jaguar, with transmission shafts passing between the engines themselves for greater compactness. Positioned on each axle, they allow the I-Pace to deliver 400 HP of power and 696 Nm of torque with four-wheel drive. These are permanent magnet synchronous electric motors that are operated independently to adapt the front and rear balancing to road conditions.
The new SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Equipped with an innovative 90 kWh lithium-ion battery that employs 432 ” pouch ” cells and guarantees an autonomy of 480 km (in the European WLTP cycle). Using a 100 kW direct charge rapid charging device, owners can recharge the battery from 0 to 80% in 40 minutes. Through a domestic 7 kW AC wall box, ideal for charging overnight, it will be possible to reach the same recharge level in just over 10 hours.
The car has a suite of intelligent technologies to optimize the autonomy, such as the battery pre-conditioning system which, once the I-PACE is connected to the recharge, will increase or decrease the temperature of its battery to maximize autonomy before leaving. The battery was mounted centrally between the two axles and in the lowest possible position, closed between the housing and the underfloor, so as to ensure a 50:50 weight distribution and a reduced center of gravity.
Jaguar I-Pace uses two synchronous permanent magnet electric motors that are operated independently to adapt the front and rear balancing to road conditions.
As for the design, I-Pace is inspired by the C-X75 supercar for the front, while the square rear helps reduce the drag coefficient to just 0.29 Cd. In order to optimize the balance between cooling and aerodynamics, the Active Vanes positioned in the grid, open in case a reduction in temperature is necessary, in order to redirect the air through the integrated socket on the bonnet, homogenizing the flow. Under the rear seats, there is a storage compartment ideal for computers and tablets, while the trunk offers a load capacity of 656 liters, which become 1,453 with the seats folded down.
The vehicle is also equipped with a double wishbone front suspension and the Integral Link system in the rear, along with optional air suspension with Adaptive Dynamics and continuously variable damping. The self-leveling system maintains the geometry of the suspension even with the vehicle fully loaded in order to preserve comfort on board.
Moreover, the Jaguar engineers have replaced the traditional vacuum brake booster with an electric brake booster, and the driver can select high or low levels of regenerative braking to maximize efficiency and optimize vehicle autonomy. By selecting the high mode, the driver will experience the single pedal driving mode, as the car will decelerate by lifting the accelerator, thereby reducing dependence on the brake pedal. The maximum regenerative braking force that can be obtained will be 0.4 G.
The new I-Pace electric is the first Jaguar to use the highly intuitive Touch Pro Duo infotainment system that guarantees new parameters for the navigation system that analyze the topography of the route and the driving style to optimize the autonomy.
The full-color head-up display projects information such as vehicle speed and navigator instructions onto the windscreen, allowing the driver to keep his eyes on the road. This advanced technology is supported by a 12-inch Interactive Driver Display, positioned behind the steering wheel for better flexibility and visibility.
Touch Pro Duo consists of a human-machine interface (HMI) based on two touch screens on the central console, designed to minimize the distraction level of the driver. The infotainment system is also equipped with an Intelligent Phone Reminder that will alert the driver if he has left his smartphone in the car.
Jaguar Smart Settings use artificial intelligence to identify driver preferences and customize the driving experience. This means that the AI will regulate the temperature, the position of the seats or the radio stations according to the preferences shown by the driver. In addition, you can set the timing of home charging so you can choose the best energy tariff on the market. Thanks to the wireless updates, I-Pace will be constantly updated, ensuring owners can always use the latest version of the software.
It is possible to immediately make orders for the new Jaguar I-Pace with prices starting from € 79,790.
