Lenovo ThinkPad Helix, the convertible tablet Windows 8
With ThinkPad Helix expands the range of professional solutions to Lenovo: it is a convertible tablet with features to Ultrabook and Windows 8 operating systems.
Lenovo at CES 2013 Las Vegas presents Lenovo ThinkPad Helix, a convertible tablet PC based on Windows 8. As in other popular solutions on the market, Lenovo ThinkPad Helix is the possibility to connect the tablet to a keyboard with touchpad and other expansion ports, but this model of Lenovo is characterized by the ability to enter the tablet in both directions as clearly shown in the photo.
The size and weight of Lenovo ThinkPad Helix let you put this model into the category of Ultrabook: the thickness is 20.4 mm and the weight is 1.67 kg, while the tablet weighs only 0.84 kg. The display has a diagonal of 11.6 inches, it is IPS type and the resolution is 1920×1080 pixels, and the manufacturer states a maximum value of backlight 400 nit.
To protect the panel Lenovo has provided for the use of Gorilla glass, a solution that still allows multi-touch support to 10 points useful to properly handle Windows 8. For special applications or operations where precision is necessary, there is also a digitizer pen, a feature also common to other competing products.
As for the hardware features Lenovo ThinkPad Helix included the use of the latest version of Intel Core i7 also – with 8GB memory DDR3 ram and 256GB SSD drive. Among other feature is signaled support for NFC technologies, the ability to enter a 4G LTE module and the presence of two webcams with definition 1080p and a touchpad with the Synaptic ClickPad technology that ensures optimal management of Windows 8 also the pointing device.
The scope of expansion ports requires the presence of two USB 3.0, mini HDMI output and a mini DisplayPort. The manufacturer claims a range of operation equal to 5 hours with the device in tablet mode while the estimated cost for the U.S. around $1,499.
