During the event, TechEd Europe, Microsoft has introduced new APIs that allow developers to interact with Office 365, a new Mobile SDK for iOS and Android and functionality for access to the app launcher Office 365. Arpan Shah, Technical Product Management team leader at Microsoft, explained that the new features and special APIs with REST-based architecture for email, file management, calendars, and contacts, will allow developers to interact with Office 365 in a continuous and transparent.
The assets in question present opportunities to Redmond, allowing developers to take advantage of the Office platform from several places, including the web. From the point of view of developers iOS, interesting is the support for Objective-C and in the future for Swift, the new programming language from Apple.
Shah showed examples with an app for iOS that uses the new API to check the calendar on Office 365, highlighting the lack of conflict in the planning of a hypothetical free to travel and consequently updating the calendar automatically. In other examples it is sata shown the ability to notify contacts, schedule meetings and send notifications to contact’s directory managed by Office 365.
Some developers are already working to take advantage of new features, including the web-based utility If This Then That (IFTTT), whose developers provide specific functionality in the coming weeks that will allow you to interact with Office 365.
For the casual user, the availability of features that allow you to communicate with Office will be transparent and will be able to log in using the Office 365 cloud account and also using the credentials you use for Facebook. The new API, the SDK and supporting materials can be found on the Microsoft website.
