Microsoft Surface Pro X: Here is Microsoft’s alternative to iPad Pro
Surface Pro X represents yet another Microsoft foray into the pure tablet market, and this seems like the right time. Challenge Apple iPad Pro directly from Apple, but with a much more structured operating system on the card.
Microsoft announced the new Microsoft Surface Pro X, the company’s first device to adopt Windows 10 on ARM. It is characterized by an even thinner form factor than the traditional Surface Pro models, challenging Apple iPad Pro much more closely and becoming more and more like a traditional tablet. All this, by implementing an OS almost entirely identical to those we are used to on desktops.
Microsoft Surface Pro X is a tablet that points everything to form factor and reduced thickness, without sacrificing the versatility of a traditional laptop. It retains all the peculiar characteristics of the 2-in-1 family: the tiltable rear support, on this improved model, and the possibility of installing a cover with integrated keyboard.
The display frames are also significantly reduced in terms of size. On a technical level, we have specifically a 13″ panel with PixelSense technology and a 2,880×1,920 pixel resolution on 3: 2 aspect ratio (267PPI the density).
A very interesting feature of this model is the presence of the first processor promoted to Microsoft: Microsoft SQ1. The chip is based on Qualcomm technologies and, according to what is known to date, should achieve performance similar to that of a consideration of Intel Core i5 series.
It is obviously based on ARM architecture and is combined with Microsoft’s Windows on ARM operating system. This component was chosen not only for performance, of course, but also and above all for energy efficiency. With Surface Pro X, we expect a great operating autonomy which, according to Microsoft, should reach a maximum of 22 hours.
Surface Pro X, the best alternative to iPad Pro is from Microsoft?
Compared to Surface Pro 6, which until recently was the best Microsoft tablet, the new model has three times the power per watt. The CPU will then be flanked by 8 up to 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM, while on the storage side we will find versions starting from 128GB up to 512GB with the possibility of replacing the integrated unit.
We have an integrated LTE modem, two USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports (obviously no Type-A), fast charge support, and everything is crammed inside a shell that is only 5.3mm thick.
Among the technical features, we also mention a Surface Connect port for charging, 5MP and 11MP camera (respectively on the front and back, both capable of recording in Full HD), and the body weighs only 680 grams.
The keyboard cover can be detached and inserted into a door located at the bottom of the display, and also includes a compartment for housing and charging the Surface Pen, redesigned with support for wireless charging. This is a novelty that we see for the first time on the products of the Surface Pro family, but which we will soon see also in the rest of the line-up.
