The Motorola range is probably one of the best structured in the Android world, with models that are positioned precisely in the various market bands without the risk of overlapping. After placing the Moto C in the entry-level zone and the arrival of the exclusive Verizon Moto Z2 Play, it’s the mid-low band with the Moto E4.
This family is in two versions, differentiated mainly for the display: Moto E4 ” smooth ” has a 5″, while Moto E4 Plus goes to 5.5″. Both have HD 720p resolution. The body resumes the style already adopted by the recent Moto G5, with the extensive use of metal and the presence of the fingerprint sensor under the screen, capable of replacing the Android navigation software bar (Back / Home / Task Switcher).
Inside the two models share the same SoC, the 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTEK MT6737, backed by a Mali ARM GPU. Other than RAM, 2GB for the Moto E4 and 3 for the E4 Plus. 16GB is the storage space, distinct and apparently non-expandable. Deep differences return to the plane of the cameras. The Plus is the best of the two, with a 13 Megapixel sensor, featuring f/2.0, auto focus, HDR and LED flash.
The smaller model should instead be content with 8 megapixels and f/2.2 aperture. They are identical for both 720p video recording (with double microphone) and the 5 megapixel front camera (fixed focus). Complete 4G LTE, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11n; Plus adds NFC as well.
Always on the bigger is also the Dolby Atmos audio support. Speaking of the energy compartment, the Moto E4 has a 2,800 mAh removable battery, while Moto E4 Plus sacrifices this latter feature for virtually 5,000 mAh. In both cases, fast recharging is supported.
Moto E4 and E4 Plus will enter the market in the next few days at $129.99 and $179.99 respectively, with Android 7.1.1 pre-installed and in different colors, also distinct by model: Metallic Iron Gray, Oxford Blue , Metallic Blush Gold for E4, Iron Gray and Fine Gold for E4 Plus.
