Netgear Nighthawk XR500 is a router with software designed for players
XR500 Nighthawk Pro Gaming is the result of the combination of the best Nighthawk technology and DumaOS, the latest generation of gaming software developed by NetDuma.
For the first time, a Netgear router uses a gaming software developed by NetDuma with features designed specifically for the needs of the players. Presented initially at CES 2018, Netgear Nighthawk XR500 is now available on the Italian market, as announced with a dedicated event held yesterday.
The new gaming router uses advanced software with features like Geo Filter, Quality of Service (QoS) and network monitoring, with the aim of making configuration and optimization as immediate as possible. The Nighthawk Pro Gaming WiFi router has excellent hardware features, such as the 1.7GHz dual core Quadstream Wave 2 WiFi processor with MUMIMO and four high-powered external antennas housed in an attractive design.
Specifically, the function of Geo Filter allows to significantly reduce the lag going to limit the distance from the server or other players. On the simple map displayed by the software, it is possible to increase or reduce the range of distance from the server or the position of the player hosting the game in the case of game sessions without a dedicated server.
This is a feature that goes particularly well especially with console gaming, where it is not always possible to manually choose the server due to the absence of the game browser. DumaOS, instead, shows in real time the position from which all the players involved in the match are connected and, immediately, based on these data, the player can establish the radius that determines the maximum distance allowed for a player involved in the game. Thus you can create a blacklist of servers and players to which you do not connect, excluding them from the game.
The Geo Filter mode is also useful for PC games that allow you to choose the server to connect to. In these cases, it can be set in ” spectator ” mode, which allows you to check the location of the server you are connected to and the ping.
The DumaOS user interface is also very immediate with regard to the so-called Quality of Service (QoS), which is one of the most sought-after features of the players’ audience. QoS traffic prioritization helps ensure that gaming devices always have top priority and bandwidth allocation.
Using a graph that has as many points as there are devices connected to the network (whether wired or wireless) players can limit the band assigned to specific devices. To do this, just drag the tip associated with the device to the inside and limit the band assigned to it.
There is no lack of tools for monitoring network resources: the Gaming Dashboard displays in real time the use of bandwidth on each device, ping, CPU performance and many other parameters on a single screen. This allows the user to control devices that use most of the available bandwidth and identify applications that may cause slowdowns. Furthermore, you can check your ping to the server or to other players involved in the match.
Netgear Nighthawk XR500 also provides players with more classic tools such as WiFi MU-MIMO technology, which allows you to simultaneously send and receive multiple streams of data to different devices in the same network, so that all gamers can play online without compromising the performance of each other. To this is added the Gaming VPN, which protects the identity of the network, prevents DDoS attacks and uses the VPN client to connect to the VPN server.
Four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports are available to users for wired connections. The 802.11ac WiFi protocol, on the other hand, uses MIMO Multi-User technology (MU-MIMO) for simultaneous Quad-Stream streaming and 160MHz for higher speeds.
Netgear Nighthawk XR500 uses a 1.7GHz Dual-Core processor, useful to manage the software optimally and to connect a large number of devices. Let’s talk about a solution that adheres to the AC2600 WiFi standard, which benefits from a wireless speed of up to 800 1733 Mbps and doubles the bandwidth available with simultaneous dual-band WiFi. Inside there are also 256 MB flash and 512 MB RAM.
Support for Beamforming+ is contemplated for more reliable connections for network performance without instability, while the Anti-Bufferbloat function prevents a single device from using all the bandwidth of its network. In particular, the Anti-Bufferbloat function allows you to distribute the upload and download bandwidth for devices connected to your network.
Responding to the renewed needs of Italian network operators, XR500 does not have a router module. In fact, operators tend to prefer the use of proprietary solutions for that part, to which they can combine advanced routing devices such as those offered by manufacturers such as Netgear.
Together with the new gaming router, Netgear also launches the Nighthawk Pro Gaming SX10 8-port LAN GbE switch. On the device two Uplink 10Gigabit / Multi-Gig 5-speed increase the speed and expand the broadband network with ports that automatically adapt to have 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps or 10Gbps.
This switch is fanless and operates silently thanks to the aluminum design that disperses heat. It also supports Port-Trunking / Link Aggregation (LAG) technology up to 20Gbps that allows you to aggregate Gigabit or Multi-Gigabit ports for even higher speeds.
