New feature on Gmail for Android: how to cancel sending e-mail
The Cancel Send function was also introduced on the client for Android, probably through a server-side operation.
The Undo feature on the official Gmail client for Android is a remedy for the impulsive that send the various messages without careful rereading or, sometimes, forgetting to insert the necessary attachment. The feature has appeared in recent days even within the app for Android, and is available for some time on the webclient, both on iOS, as well as in the Inbox app.
It is not clear on the exact moment when the feature was introduced in the client for Android, nor if the function came with a specific version of the software, or if it was introduced on the server side. In any case, we have also spotted it on our clients, and the important thing is that it works properly.
How it works: once the message is written, and the sending key is sent, a notification appears at the bottom indicating that the message has been sent, with the Cancel button on the far right of the screen.
From the appearance of the notification, the user has 10 seconds to cancel the process and doing so, the client makes the complete message appear in the Drafts so as to give the opportunity to modify the content as far as it was arrived and proceed with the sending the revised and correct version. Unlike the version for the web, on Android it is not possible to extend the time limit, which remains 10 seconds. It should be noted that the operation is different with non-Gmail addresses.
If with the Gmail addresses the sending can be recalled for a correction, with third-party providers, Gmail delays the sending of the e-mail in 10 seconds in order to give the user time to cancel the sending for the last correction. To receive this feature you need to make sure you have the latest version of the client installed, among those available on Google Play Store. You may also need to wait for a while because Google activates the server side even on your account.
