The new Skype with revolutionary graphics also comes to desktops: How to install it
The new Skype user interface we’ve seen on mobile has come to the beta of the Microsoft messaging service. Here are some photos and how to get it in advance.
The new controversial Skype graphic interface that has been introduced on mobile has also come on the desktop, still in preview version. The company opened the public beta of the new client for Windows and Mac with the revolutionary UI for Windows Insider users who want to take part in the test.
As an ” Preview ” version does not replace the standard version of Skype, it will do so once the development work is completed.
The new UI abandoned Skype’s historical stylistic canons, while awakening the purely aesthetic part. The design, more modern but also questionable, is now clearer and with inserts that adopt colorful gradients with recurring motifs.
One might argue that the new interface does not fit very well for companies and professionals using the remote communications application, who might have preferred a more sober style.
Even in the face of Skype features, it seems to move to a youth audience, moving away from the previous aseptic style. Microsoft resumes the concept of Snapchat stories (also taken from Zuckerberg on many Facebook-related applications), and also integrates images sharing during the call and the reactions.
The desktop version will also have some other news: for example, there will be a possibility to signal a specific user sending a message in the group conversation via the @ symbol (to be placed before the user name), and also a new panel to notifications. The desktop version will also include a gallery for conversations where it will be easier to find all images, files, or videos shared with users or specific groups.
Who wants to try in advance the new version of Skype can go to the official Skype Insider website, sign up using a Microsoft account insider program and download the appropriate version. The new version of Skype in beta is available on Windows 10 and macOS (but may have bugs or problems of various nature). We do not yet have information about the release timings of the full version for all users.
