Not only 5G: Qualcomm WiFi 6 platforms for the new generation of routers
Qualcomm presents 4 platforms dedicated to future WiFi6 solutions that will debut on the market: increased bandwidth but more than all latency decreasing, and many devices connected simultaneously.
Qualcomm announces today a series of new platforms, belonging to the Networking Pro family, with which to increase the spread of routers and devices compatible with the WiFi 6 standard. Specifically, the San Diego company has 4 different platforms, which vary in technical specifications for the maximum number of spatial managed streams and for the clock frequency of the integrated quad core SoC.
- Qualcomm Networking Pro 1200 Platform (supports up to 12 spatial streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with Quad-core A53 SoC up to 2.2GHz clock).
- Qualcomm Networking Pro 800 Platform (supports up to 8 spatial streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with Quad-core A53 SoC up to 1.4GHz clock).
- Qualcomm Networking Pro 600 Platform (supports up to 6 spatial streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity connectivity with A53 Quad-core SoC up to 1GHz clock).
- Qualcomm Networking Pro 400 Platform (supports up to 4 spatial streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity connectivity with A53 Quad-core SoC up to 1GHz clock).
The WiFi 6 standard (AX standard) makes it possible to increase the maximum transmission bandwidth between devices compared to WiFi5 (AC standard) products, but more than that it offers practical effects in terms of network operating efficiency.
We can explain WiFi 6 with a similarity with the 5G technology adopted for wireless connectivity: it increases speed, but more than that the new technology improves latency and allows to manage a large number of devices in parallel and with high efficiency at the same time.
All this is also achieved by using which clients connected to the network are devices based on WiFi5 technology, hence the classic 802.11/ac. Devices of this type are increasingly present within the home, with requests to the router ranging from large transmission bandwidth (such as streaming video streams, for example) to the need to always be connected and responsive to commands (as for smart lamps).
Qualcomm pushes for innovation in mobile devices, aware of how this will focus on the diffusion of 5G connectivity but that this will be flanked by WiFi 6 connectivity inside closed spaces and in outdoor areas with a surface to be covered that is circumscribed.
The expected diffusion of mobile devices, and more in general of the ways of using mobile data, leads all the manufacturers in the sector to develop solutions capable of combining speed performance with a capillary coverage, with the signal always easily accessible.
