OCZ unveils new SSD Vector 180 Series, renewing fact its price list in top-end of the range for the consumer sector enthusiast with SATA 6 Gbps. Since Toshiba acquired section of OCZ SSD, we have witnessed an adjustment of available models with the transition to NAND flash chips from Toshiba itself.
The OCZ Vector 180 series uses the familiar Barefoot 3 controller, while the form factor remains that 2.5 inch slim 7 mm. Moving on to the chip used, we speak of the Toshiba A19 MLC Toggle NAND 19nm. It is immediately wondered what’s different between the new Vetor 180 and Vector 150 presented about a year and a half ago, since the performance for now coincide.
We start with the price category, which now come up to 960 GB while the Vector 150 is reached a maximum at 480 GB. 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB are the other price category in which you can find OCZ Vector 180, while the performance claims are in the order of 550 MB per second read and 530 MB per second in writing for all units except the 120 GB, whose writing maximum drops to 450 MB per second.
OCZ Vector 180 is also enriched the already known 5-year warranty but with the service ShieldPlus, which allows you to send the damaged unit under warranty without receipt as proof of purchase but simply with the serial number. In addition to this, OCZ Vector 180 comes not only with Acronis True Image, but also with the new tool SSD Guru, useful for the complete management of the unit that can be set to maximize performance, reliability or capacity.
Prices? Better keep an eye on the price lists of the leading online store, as for now are very few to have them and the figures could soon undergo a downsizing. The unit 240 GB is currently in preparation for a test.
