Olympus OM-D E-M1X: the new camera for sport
The new Olympus OM-D E-M1X is proposed as a solution for sports photography (but not only)! 20 MPixel sensor and 121 points of focus in addition to a high constructive care for a $3,000.
The time has finally come to know what are the definitive specifications of the new mirrorless Olympus OM-D E-M1X camera that aims at a professional audience, especially in the field of sporting events.
A solid and magnesium alloy construction for the machine body was already in the air, and we know that it was designed to be able to operate in unfavorable weather conditions (IPX1 certification). As already seen in the leaked images.
Now the Olympus OM-D E-M1X has a battery-grip built into the body that allows you to improve the grip and of course increase the total autonomy due to the two batteries. The dimensions are 144 x 147 x 75 mm while the weight reaches 997 grams (the batteries allow you to shoot up to 870 shots).
The new Olympus OM-D E-M1X has a 22 MPixel CMOS sensor (20 effective MPixel) in Quattro-Terzi format. The images are processed by a double TruePic VIII processor that should be able to speed up the processing of the photographs even at high resolution or with prolonged gusts (up to 60 fps). Interesting the possibility of having an electronic ND filter that allows to exploit this effect without actually resorting to filters.
The exposure time can vary from 60″ up to 1/8000″ (the shutter should resist for 400 thousand shots). There are also high-resolution mode (80 MPixel) and one for high-resolution shots but with a hand-held camera. To avoid overheating problems, the sensor is cooled by heat pipe while the Supersonic Wave Filter allows more dust to be removed.
The sensitivity varies between ISO 200 and 25600 and there are seven types of preset white balance (four customizable ones). Image stabilization is integrated into the body with sensor displacement ensuring up to 7.5 stops (with 12-100 mm).
Olympus OM-D E-M1X provides up to 121 points of focus while the electronic viewfinder (EVF) is 2.36 million points (while the competition now points to those with 3.68 million points). Of course, it is also possible to use the 3″ diagonal rear screen.
There are two slots for SD / SDHC / SDXC while there is a USB 3.1 Type-C (also for charging), micro-HDMI, microphone jack, headphone jack, integrated GPS with the ability to enter annotations and support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth and can be controlled remotely.
The price of the new Olympus OM-D E-M1X has been set at $2999 for just the camera and the arrival is scheduled for February 2019 forwarded.
