OneDrive, many new features: The new UI and on-demand function
The Microsoft cloud storage service will be updated soon with various changes both in terms of style and functionality.
Microsoft is going to bring a series of news on OneDrive, with changes in the UI and new sharing options, where it revealed some news for end users and system administrators. Within the news, there will also be a clear improvement of the web experience, cleaner and more intuitive even through the simple browser.
The new interface will allow you to find the contents already shared in a simplified way within a new contact card. Microsoft explains the function like this: ” Quickly check which files and which folders are new, which content have been shared with other users and also who has already viewed the content and who not with the click of a single button thanks to the new Contact Card (People ) and the new Information Panel “.
It also improves the sharing experience, so that it is as consistent as possible between the different platforms that the service supports. Microsoft claims to have ” standardized ” the functionality between Windows, Mac and the web, adding a new panel that allows users to share documents with specific people, with anyone or with the contacts that participate within the same group or same organization.
On the service will also be present several news of more or less greater entity for all types of users. We report below, as described by Microsoft:
- Support for synchronization of protected libraries with Information Rights Management (IRM) or Digital Rights Management (DRM).
- Secure and simple external sharing even if you do not have a Microsoft account (MSA), allowing for example to use Azure to use a one-time password to ensure access to the content.
- Support for On-Premise customers on Windows and Android apps.
- Desktop sharing notifications allow to see if the files that have been shared to have been opened or modified.
- Support for Zip files, which you can also open and view via the web to select which files to extract and use.
- Integration of the synchronization client on Mac Office.
- Support for NGSC (next-generation generation sync client) in SharePoint 2019.
- Modern web experience. When you click on a file on OneDrive web or choose to open a file via browser you will be able to access an editing mode that allows you to start work faster.
- Restoring files, you will be able to recover lost files in different situations, such as deletions, ransomware, corruptions and other scenarios.
- Self Service Migration Toolkit. Multi-Geo, Service Level Encryption with Customer Key, updates to Admin Center.
- Updates to the mobile client, in which will be introduced several features taken from the web variant and the latest additions on it (for example, the new sharing experience, with notifications).
