Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 – Review

With the advent of smart phones and their cameras more and more powerful, it is necessary that the various manufacturers of cameras invest and develop their point and shoot in order to differentiate themselves and justify their purchase. Panasonic has succeeded in producing the Lumix DMC-LF1, a pocket camera of the latest generation, equipped with Wi-Fi and NFC technology, which complements the LX series with some important new features, including: a more powerful zoom and a bright viewfinder electronic. It is available in two colors black and white.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 – Basic features.

Has the same CMOS sensor (7:44 x 5:58 mm) of the LX7, but 12 megapixels, the maximum shutter speed is reached 1/4000 sec. and offers an ISO range of 80-6400 expandable up to 12,800. It has a zoom lens with optical stabilizer to 7.1x equivalent to 28-200 mm and a maximum aperture of f/2.0. 23-area AF mode and you can record video in full HD 1,920 x 1,080 MPEG-4 and AVCHD.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 – Build quality and Ergonomics.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 sports a clean and sleek design, lightweight, weighs only 192 grams, including battery and even smaller than the LX7. It is a compact, solid and well built, the only thing, the front surface smooth grip makes one-hand a bit slippery.

On top of the camera is the mode dial to snap the shutter button surrounded by the zoom and the on / off button. On the front, you will find a button to switch between the electronic viewfinder live-view and another to turn on Wi-Fi. Movie recording is done in a simple way, by pressing the dedicated button.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 – Functions.

Screen 3″ LCD with 920,000 dots, is bright and clearly visible in all situations, pity it is not a touch screen. There is also an electronic viewfinder which of course, given the price and the small size of the camera, you cannot expect the best. The resolution is too low and the view is not very wide.

The Lumix DMC-LF1 offers a wide range of shooting options, including two custom modes, scene mode with 16 presets, landscape mode, Creative Control mode with a variety of effects to apply, the intelligent auto mode and the four modes of a classical SLR: A, S, M, P. All easily selectable from the main dial.

Very interesting is the panorama mode that records a series of images and merges them all together in a flash, saving time in post-production. With the wi-fi you can view your images on a larger screen and detailed, also on your mobile you can control the camera with the appropriate free app available for both iOS devices Android.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 – Performance.

The images produced are beautiful, high quality, there were no particular chromatic aberrations, lacking only a bit of sharpness. Up to ISO 1,600 images are clean and free of noise started to look up significantly from 3200.

The Lumix DMC-LF1 is defended well in high-contrast scenes, and you get beautiful images even at night, thanks to the maximum shutter time of 60 seconds in manual mode and the starry sky.

Conclusions

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 is a compact, high-end, ideal for those looking for a camera handy to carry around, versatile and with so many features. The pros are: the high brightness of the scope and zoom and the electronic viewfinder that even if he did not excel in quality is still a viable alternative in situations where it is difficult to composing with the LCD screen.
