Panasonic Lumix ZS200, compact super-zoom with 1-inch sensor
A compact synthesizable in three figures: 1 inch (sensor), 15x (zoom) and 45mm (the thickness of the camera body) – 360mm equivalent in pocket format.
Simultaneously with the mirrorless GX9, Panasonic has also announced the compact super zoom ZS200, whose essence can be summarized in three numbers: 1-inch sensor, 15x zoom, 45mm thickness.
This is obviously a pocket camera for those who love travel reportage and who, above all, like to travel light (the acronym TZ stands for ” Travel Zoom “, also known as the Lumix TZ200 ).
Most of the most interesting technical cues are attributable to optics, equivalent to 24-360mm in 35mm format. It is not easy to create a zoom of this range for relatively large sensors like this, with a sophisticated optical scheme (13 elements in 11 groups, with 5 aspherical lenses, 1 low dispersion aspherical and three low dispersion lenses, for a total of 11 aspherical surfaces). Leica managed to create a packaging so effective to contain the thickness of the camera in just 45.2mm.
Obviously, a very extreme lens cannot be particularly bright: f/3.3-6.4. On the other hand, very good focusing distance (only 3 cm), which allows to achieve ” macro ” enlargements above average.
Behind the lens, the aforementioned 1-inch sensor reaches 20 Mpixels, and can count on an electronics that is substantially equivalent to that of the Lumix G mirrorless. We find a 5-axis stabilizer, auto focus DFD, a cadence that it reaches 6 fps in AF-C mode (10 fpa in AF-S) and 4K Photo function, complete with the new Auto Marking and Sequence Composition functions on the Lumix GX9.
The rear screen (touchscreen) measures 3 inches and counts 1.24M dots, and is not missing a 0.21-inch electronic viewfinder and 2.33M dots, less cramped than you might expect from this type of product: 0.53x its magnification – in addition to the scope of the zoom, it is precisely in the zoom ratio of the viewfinder that the Lumix ZS200 shows the most significant advantages compared to the forehead
