Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, 730 and 730G: 3 new platforms focused on camera, AI and Gaming
Qualcom extends the Snapdragon platform portfolio with three products in the medium-high range: 665, 730 and 730G. The news focuses on three areas of particular interest for current smartphones: camera, Artificial Intelligence and Gaming.
With Snapdragon 665, 730 and 730G, Qualcomm aims to consolidate its leadership as a provider of SoC platforms for smartphones, launching 3 new products designed to be integrated into medium / high-end models.
The main innovations of the 3 products focus on the management of the camera sector, on an advanced Artificial Intelligence and on features specifically designed for the gaming sector, which is increasingly growing in the mobile sector.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 665: uncompromising mid-range photos
Qualcomm’s research confirms an obvious concept to anyone who uses a smartphone: the camera is important and often determines which model is purchased. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC is designed to carry camera-related features in mid-range smartphones that have been found only in high-end models to date.
Based on the Kyro 260 processor and 11nm manufacturing process, ISP Spectra 165 and a 3rd generation AI engine offer full support for triple camera systems with 5x optical zoom.
Artificial Intelligence is now an essential element in managing photos in a smartphone and intervenes to identify the objects and the context in which they are located, adapting the parameters of the shot in real time.
The ISP Spectra 165 allows you to manage cameras with 48 megapixel resolution, enables portrait mode, HDR and the unlocking of the phone with 3D face recognition. With the Snapdragon 665, for the first time in a series 6 platform, the Vulkan 1.1 graphics driver will be implemented that optimizes the gaming performance of the Adreno 610 GPU and guarantees a 20% saving in battery consumption compared to the 660 platform.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 and 730G: high-end video and gaming performance
Big news for the series 7 in video, connectivity and Artificial Intelligence with the new Snapdragon 730 platforms. For the first time in this series Qualcomm integrates a Kryo CPU of the series 4 with 8nm production process, the 4th generation AI Engine with Tensor Accelerator and apt-X Adaptive, the Spectra ISP of the series 3 with CV-I and Wi-fi 6.
The Snapdragon 730 Advanced AI is 2 times faster than the 710 series and enables a new voice assistant, which allows to recognize multiple keywords and have better recognition of the human voice.
The new ISP Spectra 350 instead enables 4K video with HDR in Portrait mode with Depth Sensing at 60 fps. The 730G variant is optimized for gaming and allows for 15% better graphics performance than Snapdragon 730 and integrates some Snapdragon elite gaming features such as anti-cheat extensions, Wi-Fi latency manager and HDR Gaming.
The Snapdragon platforms 665, 730 and 730G are already in sampling, the first smartphones with 665 will arrive on the market in the second quarter of 2019, while for 730 and 730G they will arrive within the first half of 2019.
