Red off! Gmail has a new graphical interface on Android: here’s how to get it
Google has finally released the Gmail update with the new graphical interface, abandoning the strong red hues for a decidedly more tenuous design.
I’ve never been attracted by graphical interface of the Gmail app for Android in recent years, especially since I think the big red bar on the top is too extreme for an e-mail client. But fortunately, Google is back on its feet by releasing all the users a revised version of the app, maintaining its strengths and introducing a less aggressive user interface than before.
The company had announced the change starting in January, in which it had anticipated that it would soon release the new interface based on light colors. It seems that in these days, the distribution of the update has been completed, with Gmail, which now shows a style more in line with the canons adopted by the rest of the Google app on Android: the e-mail client is now aligned to the minimalist style of Google Photos, Messages, Contacts.
” We start the year with a new style for Gmail also on mobile “, Big G had written last month. ” In the new update the attachments are also in view in the list of conversations, and there is no need to open or scroll to the inside them to get a preview. It is also easier to switch between personal and work accounts, and as is the case on the web, big red warnings are shown in case of potentially phishing emails. ”
Gmail now becomes more consistent not only with the other Google Apps on Android, but also with the new web-app on the desktop. All obtaining web-app features, such as the Smart Compose and Smart Reply functions, in addition to the new user interface: the whole chromatic part changes, the side scroll bar, and in the upper-right part an avatar of the user with which you can switch to another account with two taps.
On the lower-right side, there is instead of the ” FAB “, Floating Action Button, which allows you to start composing a new e-mail. The new design is now active on Android and to install it, simply update the client (link on Google Play Store), but it will also soon arrive on Gmail for iOS devices.
