The start-up that has made Remix Mini is bringing its operating system based on Android Lollipop within any x86 PC.
At the CES in Las Vegas, Jide has announced that Remix OS 2.0 will be available free to any PC x86 starting next January 12. It is an OS based on Android that we have already crossed inside Remix Mini, a small cheap computer that has had a tremendous success on Kickstarter. Remix OS 2.0 allows the execution of the app’s Google Play, and could revive older computers that cannot run more than in Windows XP.
The peculiarities of the operating system is its extreme customization of the graphical stock Android. This has been totally redesigned to accommodate a desktop environment where applications, the same that we find on the store Google, can be performed in a window or full screen, at your own risk. Remix OS 2.0 can be run with either touchscreen with mouse and keyboard, and has been implemented to also support the right mouse button.
As of 12 January, the operating system can be installed on a partition of a desktop or notebook computer to a USB stick for a more “portable“. The company recommends a USB 3.0 flash drive with at least one write transfer rate of 20MB / s to get adequate performance, and by doing so you will always carry an installation of Android running on virtually any personal computer in circulation.
Upon Remix OS 2.0 is a fork of Android Lollipop, but the company has guaranteed that soon will update based on a marshmallow. That available on January 12 will be an alpha version of the operating system, and can be downloaded either on the official website of Jide, where you can find much more information on the subject, and on that partner’s Android-x86.
