At CES in Las Vegas SanDisk has a whole new family of Solid-State Drive called Plus, as well as broaden the range of well-known models from the Ultra II with mSATA form factor, designed for slim notebooks in which they are often adopted. At the CES in Las Vegas SanDisk has introduced some new features that extend the list of SSD solutions, the field in which the company is particularly active.
There are two main novelties presented in the form of a new series Plus of 2.5-inch-end economic, and the version of the already known Ultra II mSATA. Now let’s see some details.
Family Plus is sold in denominations of 120 GB and 240 GB, with a slim form factor 2.5-inch (7mm thick) and obviously SATA 6Gbps interface; SanDisk does not declare the type of controller and chip, effectively leaving no precise information on the issues MAIN, but we know that the units will be subject to a 3-year warranty.
The performance is in line with other entry-level models: the SanDisk Plus 120 GB can get to 550 MB per second read, stopping to 180MB per second with respect for the writing, while for the unit to be increased to 240 GB writing to 350 MB according to. Prices? SanDisk suggests $ 69.99 for the 120 GB model and $ 109.99 for the 240 GB.
More complex and even more powerful is instead the family Ultra II format mSATA, used more and more frequently in the portable slim and of which there are still few alternatives to the models offered as standard. Since the series is already known, we can venture some technical feature or the use of NAND Flash chip type 3-bit per cell and a Marvell controller, in the version with four channels (one to eight channels is used only in denominations greater than those available for the series mSATA).
Performance is high regardless of the cuts available (120 GB, 240 GB, 480 GB): for all the write speed is a maximum of 500 MB per second, while the reading reaches 550 MB per second, effectively saturating the real bandwidth of SATA interface 6 Gbps, Drives SanDisk Ultra II mSATA SSD will be available in the first quarter of 2015 in selected regions suggested retail price of $ 73.99 (128 GB), $ 115.99 (256 GB) and $ 220.99 (512 GB). The warranty is always three years.
Both drives SanDisk SSD Plus both those SanDisk Ultra II mSATA SSD include a downloadable application, SanDisk SSD Dashboard, which provides management tools typical of SSDs as performance monitoring and status of the drive, TRIM manual or programmed, notifications for firmware updates and various suggestions.
SSD in the Dashboard are also a wide variety of applications, including the Apricorn EZ Gig cloning software IV, and antivirus TrendMicro Titanium and the Absolute Lojack software, which can help track down the lost or stolen laptop.
