The capacity of our mobile devices is not infinite, and sometimes it might be nice to have an extra storage for documents, music, videos and movies. This is essentially the proposal of the SanDisk Flash Drive Wireless, a unit that allows access via Wi-Fi to the contents of an integrated microSD (here in the 16GB model). Within a very compact device so there is a card reader, a battery and a wireless antenna to connect to smartphones and tablets.
Attaching it to the USB port of your computer can load all the data we want, then just access to its wireless network with the free app from SanDisk to navigate the contents of the microSD and read files. Unfortunately, the app is not great, has a few advanced features and does not read iWork files and videos in DivX / XviD.
The basic idea of the Sandisk Wireless Flash Drive, we loved and if you use it only for photos and music is not bad. The app is quite limited and does not allow you to have a navigation experience truly rewarding. Everything is based simply on file, so you can create music playlists or photo albums, but it will be necessary for nesting in simple folders. It is a storage system easy but not too efficient, so the app should be understood as a simple file browser and not so much as a media playback.
As for compatibility with documents open the pdf and office files, but unfortunately not those of iWork. For movies we found three limitations: the first is that it does not support divx / xvid but only the H.264, the second is that they can not make it to manage a stream FullHD, and the third is that it does not read the subtitles. Although only minimal functions on the player, there is only play, pause, forward and back. We say that the app is the weak point of the whole system while the product would have a great potential.
The price of $50 for the version that includes the micro SD 16GB seems reasonable, but the truth is that, as it stands, does not come to get a good judgment because of the app. The ideal would be to develop the video section on the basis of Infuse, the document similar to Documents by Readdle and the audio in iTunes-style. Of course, you cannot want everything in life, but it certainly should improve a lot in each section, offering more features to speak on a file and use of the content more engaging.
Our Opinion
PROS : Additional storage for iOS / Android., Based on microSD (for which it may use more than one)., Simple charging via USB. Good battery life., Good battery life.
CONS : The app support is little more than a file browser., The speed is not sufficient for video streams FullHD.
