Seagate announces Innov8, the first external hard drive in the world powered solely by USB Type-C connector. Seagate Innov8 has a capacity of 8TB and requires no external adapter or power supply.
Hard drives and external SSDs are certainly not new, the offer is very wide and diversified and includes models that are more suitable for use in mobility. There are limitations in terms of capacity surmountable only by resorting to external boxes with mechanical hard drives from 3.5″, the same used in desktop PCs. Products that, at the same time, have the not inconsiderable disadvantage of requiring an external power supply in order to operate.
Seagate announced Innov8, the first desktop hard drive in the world able to operate with a simple USB connection Type-C. No external power supply required, unchanged the advantages deriving from the integration of a desktop-class hard drive which offers a capacity of at 8TB. This result was achieved thanks to the combination of the Ignition Boost Seagate Technology with USB 3.1.
The Seagate Innov8 hard disk is contained in an aluminum shell which, besides being very resistant and characterized by a design that does not go unnoticed, can be positioned both horizontally, both vertically.
The ability to use the device without any external power supply makes it a certainly more practical use of the product on the move, but it is important to emphasize that weight and size do not make it exactly a featherweight (it is still a desktop hard drive 3.5″ enclosed in a metal chassis): measuring 208 x 123.6 x 36 mm and weighs 1.5 kg.
A storage solution especially suited to those who need to store (locally) a large amount of data, but want to minimize the cables and accessories needed to interface the product with the PC or laptop, using the increasingly popular USB Type-C connection.
Seagate, with advertising materials simultaneously spread the announcement of the product, makes no secret of coupled pointed to: that with modern ultrabook, well represented by the Apple MacBook.
Seagate Innov8 is priced at $ 349 and will be available starting in April at the Seagate online store, Amazon and other selected retailers. To note that buyers will have 200GB of free storage space on OneDrive and the ability to manage backup tasks in an easy manner using the Seagate Dashboard software included in the package.
