Smartphones Cameras: 100 MPixels by 2020
Smartphone cameras are becoming increasingly complex and always of higher quality. Within the next few months and as early as 2020, the first models with 100 MPixel sensors and beyond could appear.
Smartphone cameras are becoming more and more powerful and as models follow, improvements are evident. For example, the new Huawei P30 and P30 Pro are highly performing solutions, even with regards to zoom (for the Pro version).
Over the last few months, there have been several smartphone cameras that have adopted a 48 MPixel resolution sensor but the MPixel race will not stop, and soon it could reach new heights.
As we know, it is not necessarily true that ” the more MPixels there are in a sensor, the higher the quality “, but it is an important attraction for marketing and users.
According to Credit Suisse analysts, smartphone cameras could break through the 100 MPixel barrier within the next few months and point to the Galaxy S10 replacement as a possible first model.
The report states that ” Samsung LSI 12MP / 48MP re-mosaic technology is late and was scheduled for launch in 2H CY19, but we believe that Samsung will miss the real 48MP and will instead focus on the development of 64MP sensors for 2H. We also see a growing possibility of 108MP sensor launches in 2020 “.
But smartphone cameras will continue to evolve due to other factors: for example, pop-up cameras could become more and more widespread, integrating optics with f/1.4 aperture and increasingly powerful optical zoom. In short, there will be many new features in the coming months, but will users be satisfied?
