Swift 5 is Acer’s ultra-thin laptop elegant and solid
The Acer Swift 5 family of notebooks focuses on the traditional design of clamshell devices enhanced by the touch screen, offering elegance in design to robustness and performance.
There is a lot of interest in portable devices of the 2-in-1 category, able to adapt to the needs of use, transforming from laptops to tablets and very often offering intermediate solutions between the two. However, this does not seem to have reduced the attention to traditional clamshell devices, based on a traditional design.
The combination of a touch screen makes these products more suitable for uses that go beyond the interaction with the keyboard, touchpad and mouse: we approach, at least in part, the hybrid approach carried out by 2-in-1 products not losing the strengths of clamshell design ranging from the ability to easily type holding the notebook on the legs to a high overall robustness.
Even in the light of these considerations there is no shortage of announcements of mobile products of the clamshell type aimed at an audience that researches design, performance and quality in construction. This target is addressed by Acer with the Swift family models, with the Swift 5 devices that represents a meeting point between these needs and a purchase cost that is not reduced in absolute but still accessible for many users.
The 14-inch diagonal screen has Full HD resolution and is based on IPS technology, so as to ensure an optimal viewing angle; the 9.2 mm frames are very small and help to better characterize the product from the point of view of design. Acer BluelightShield technology allows you to monitor the amount of blue light emitted from the screen during operation, so as to avoid excessive exposure, especially during the night hours.
The shell is based on a lithium and magnesium alloy for the main structure, combined with an aluminum and magnesium alloy for the wrist rest area and the keyboard. Despite the limited thickness, Acer has integrated in Swift 5: two USB 3.1 ports of type-A flanked by a USB 3.1 Type-C. For construction and accessories this product family is suitable for the prosumer user who wants a durable and elegant notebook, with easy portability due to the weight of less than 1Kg but at the same time does not compromise on performance capacity.
Acer offers these notebooks in combination with Intel Core i7-8550U and Core i5-8250U, proposed with eighth-generation quad core architecture that integrate Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU. The system memory is equal to 8 Gbytes, while the storage onboard sees a 256 Gbytes SSD of capsacity. Official prices start at $999.
