Video Surveillance – DIY thanks to new technologies

The technological development of recent years has undoubtedly been able to change the way we live life everyday.

The advent of smartphones and the spread of mobile internet networks are capable of reaching relatively high speeds have an effect on our behavior, habits, and even social relations. We find ourselves so surrounded by technology in many different areas. Lately, a growing trend has been to exploit these new devices for their personal safety.

They are significantly increasing device manufacturers and software that focus on domestic surveillance. The market offers many possibilities: you start with simple app, and you end up with kits to eight cameras.

Starting from the most economical systems we find in the store different digital applications that can even try for free. Some take advantage of a very smart idea: with the rapid evolution of many smartphone users have now already changed the phone at least once at home and then have a device running in a drawer unused. The developers have then seen fit to allow us to brush up on these phones using them as surveillance cameras.

Just install the app on the phones in question choice. A much appreciated by users is such as Motion Detector Pro (iOS, Android), available in the free version. Once installed and set some basic parameters, the app will automatically take a photo or photos whenever it detects motion within the camera shooting.

The images are then stored in the local memory, and if the phone is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi or 3G, even in the cloud. Simultaneously, the app can also send a message that warns us that a motion is detected.

A similar type of software also exists for computers. Indeed, there are some programs that allow you to take advantage of a webcam and a PC with Internet connection to create a small circuit video surveillance. In this context, a software widely appreciated for its simplicity is what allows Sentry Vision Security, once configured to transmit the filming of the webcam on a private page on the Internet. By doing so gives you the ability to access images from any device with free, including smartphones and tablets.

Wanting to make a step forward in terms of cost but also quality, we find the IP camera. These surveillance cameras that can connect to our router via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable and that are able to transmit the images that capture directly over the Internet. Thanks to these devices so we can arrange a multi-camera surveillance system by spending relatively little and having a good yield.

As with the above, software can access images of these IP cameras from any device with Internet connection. In addition, there is the possibility of saving the filming of specific cloud services, often provided directly by the manufacturers of the cameras; so you always have the opportunity to view a recording part when you need it.

Therefore, methods that allow us to take advantage of new technologies to create our video surveillance system do-it-yourself, there are many, but … should rely only on these to protect their own safety? Personally, I would say no, because they may be useful in certain situations, certainly not prevent any criminal from entering the house. Of course once the theft has been made, we will probably be able to provide images of the thieves to the police, but not always, these will be useful.

Some users who use these systems always recommend using them in conjunction with other deterrent mechanisms and especially in conjunction with the appropriate insurance. Many are then met by an innovative system that is spreading rapidly, that of the burglar’s Fog of machines to take the alarm begin to produce a dense blanket of toxic smoke that fills in a few seconds the home environment, making it impossible to see to more than a few inches apart. Certainly, that in this case the do-it-yourself is not an option that you can easily take into account.

Among our readers, there is someone who uses the app, smartphone and IP camera for home security? What do you think of these solutions? And above all, you have some good advice to increase the effectiveness of these systems and thus our security?
