vRotors allows you to pilot real drones from home via a VR viewer.
Through a VR viewer, you can have an experience similar to that of a video game, while driving really existing drones.
vRotors is a new platform that allows any VR viewer to remotely pilot a real drone. On the latter, a video camera is mounted that transmits images to the viewer at home, so that it is possible to remotely pilot and experience all the emotions of the most daring flights.
In fact, within the VR experience, players can hit the enemy aircraft with rockets and must avoid fictitious obstacles. The augmented reality system is able to insert three-dimensional objects into the real environment. Furthermore, vRotors allows public participation in these curious races through the integration of Twitch. Viewers can repair the ship of their favorite streamer or provide weapons in order to give competitive advantages.
Players acquire a ticket to participate in a 15-minute session, at the end of which they get a video to remember the experience. Furthermore, they do not have to worry about the maintenance or repair of real drones, borne by the company promoting the initiative. It remains to be seen what the latencies between the player’s input, and the remote drone’s reaction will be.
In order to access the experience only a VR viewer is required. This shows the inside of the cockpit with the flight instruments superimposed on the actual images to provide information on altitude, speed, weapons and directions to follow. Using augmented reality, the objectives of the course, challenges and enemies are superimposed on the real environment. For other details, we refer to the vRotors website.
