Wikipedia is renewed on iOS: Support 3D Touch and more
Wikipedia releases version 5.0 of the app for iOS devices, which brings with it a renewal of the design, the interface and interaction tools for searching content.
Wikipedia renews in an important way the official app available for iOS devices, recently announced version 5.0 available in the App Store. The new release introduces important enhancements that allow you to filter based on its own interests the considerable amount of information packed into Wikipedia.
The first significant innovations passes for the new feed Explore. Scrolling through the contents of the new feed you will have access to an updated set of Wikipedia content dynamically comprising Articles highlight of the day, the most read articles, the photo of the day, a series of randomly selected items and articles that relate to places and other elements present in the vicinity of the position, as well as a series of recommendations tailored to the user’s preferences (derived from read articles previously).
The second novelty core of the new release of Wikipedia for iOS is represented by the renewal of design and tools that improve the user experience, several of which coincide with the peculiar features supported by the iOS operating system. First, it was introduced the possibility to explore the different sections of the app via gestures, including 3D Touch.
The search tools have been enhanced forward using Spotlight, which will find the articles stored earlier. The searches in the app can also be also carried out by the insertion of emojis. Always with a view to improve the research tools, Wikipedia offers the possibility of intervening in the settings for searching in multiple languages.
The support 3D Touch of iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus speeds up the execution of a series of operations, which can be activated directly by long press on the icon of the app. You can, for example, quickly start the search or read an article chosen randomly, using the context menu, without having previously launched the app. The articles are also accompanied by close-up images and image galleries in high resolution that make it undoubtedly the most eye-catching and rich in consultation information.
Rounding out the picture the tools dedicated to sharing content via social media and email and support to the handoff mode that allows you to continue reading the articles on other iOS devices seamlessly. An update particularly rich and able to leverage the contents of Wikipedia, using native functions of the mobile operating system from Cupertino.
