Xiaomi announces MIUI 9, a minor upgrade to its ROM
MIUI has announced the MIUI 9, the latest version of its ROM that does not bring big news on the plate but promises performance enhancements and small refinements of user experience as well as exclusive features for the Chinese market.
After long anticipations and corridor voices, Xiaomi presented the new MIUI 9. The new version of the ROM with which the Chinese producer was born in 2010 does not bring with it major upheaval, but an aging of what has been seen with MIUI 8 and a ‘ special attention to performance.
The MIUI 9 focuses mainly on reducing load times, both at terminal start-up and application start-up, and also gives a lot of attention to the scheduler. The company claims that the kernel scheduler has been revised to give priority to the application in use, in order to provide greater fluidity and speed. There are also novelties in the face of haptic feedback, which has been revised and should now be more enjoyable.
In addition to the new backgrounds, Xiaomi also presented a new default theme and three new themes that can be downloaded from the theme store integrated into the ROM. System icons have also been reviewed, which now appear more modern.
Xiaomi also presented his new assistant, called – with a lot of fantasy – Smart Assistant. It is an assistant that allows you to search applications, notes, pictures and more. In pursuing this path of greater integration and intelligent service to the user, the company also introduced an application snippet (called Smart Launcher) that activates in conversations within messaging applications, thus allowing access – example – maps when an address is detected within a message.
Interesting is the implementation of a search engine that allows people to search for specific locations within the images taken. You can then search for images with keywords, so a ” cat ” search should return all the photos in the cats archive.
The MIUI 9 also comes with the ability to use multiple applications simultaneously through a multi-window mode that allows you to run two applications together by dividing the screen into two.
Many of the advanced features are currently restricted to the Chinese market alone, and it is unknown, if and when they will overtake the boundaries of the Eastern nation. Xiaomi, though not bringing many new features, has introduced improvements that should substantially improve the user experience and go above all to bridge the performance gaps the ROM has been subjected to by increasing functionality.
