A phablet 6.4 inch OLED display with no frame (screen-to-body of 91.3%). Ceramic unibody and Snapdragon 821 processor and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Here’s what it means for the future Xiaomi.
Xiaomi unveiled to the public an additional device in the design phase which provides a very interesting novelty: the ” edgeless ” screen that is without any frame. Xiaomi aims high and its future is called Mi MIX.
The phablet has a 6.4-inch display where the ” screen-to-body “, ie the percentage of the display with respect to the totality of the front surface of the smartphone, is as high as 91.3%. In terms of comparison, we can consider as the Apple iPhone 7 Plus with its 5.5-inch display possesses a percentage of screen-to-body equal to 67.7% and thus about 23% less than the future Xiaomi Mi MIX.
The design of this smartphone of the future was conceived and designed by Xiaomi in collaboration with the famous French designer Philippe Stark. The difficulty of achieving such a project has been mainly in having to place all the components below the OLED surface that clearly leaves no space for anything like the other smartphones. The new Mi MIX body is a ceramic unibody, highly resistant material, which will allow the device to reach its high performance in these terms.
Getting a ” edgless ” design was the result of long and difficult planning over the implementation of new technologies. The new Mi MIX engineers, have had to forcibly put the front camera (5MP) in the bottom of the front panel while the proximity sensors and speaker were ” hidden ” under the screen.
Besides the new Xiaomi smartphone will be the first to use ultrasound technology, already placed for fingerprinting, to capture the proximity of the user’s face during calls. The speaker will work thanks to a piezoelectric ceramic sensor cantilever that will convert the vibrations into sound audible to the human ear.
On the front, as said, it is positioned a 6.4-inch display of OLED type and by the resolution of 2,040×1,080 pixels that gets to this an aspect ratio of 17: 9, definitely not consonant with nowadays standards on the market but which must compensate for the lack of frames.
The use of an OLED panel was a choice dictated by trying to follow the slight curvature of the frame to which the protective glass has been set with small joints (called tenon joint) eliminating the use of glue.
As for the technical specifications, the future Xiaomi Mi MIX will own the new Snapdragon 821 2.35 GHz with power, and 4 GB of RAM memory and 128GB UFS 2.0. In this version, the Chinese company has decided to support a 18K version which will be placed 6GB of RAM, a 256GB internal memory and two 18-carat gold ring around the rear camera.
Camera, unique, which will own a 16 Megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture, LED flash and PDAF. This all kind of latest generation of connectivity like Bluetooth 4.2, the module Wi-Fi 802.11a / b / g / n / ac, GPS, NFC and LTE.
Do not miss on your smartphone innovation to the audio industry since Xiaomi has thought of putting a system for playing music in high-resolution Hi-Fi (192kHz / 24bit) that will allow to listen to songs with high fidelity. A data-sheet is completed with a battery with 4,400 mAh capacity, supporting fast charging Quick Charge 3.0, the presence of the headphone jack 3.5 mm and a Type-C USB jack.
The new Xiaomi Mi MIX will be on sale from next November in a pack completely covered in leather at the price of 3,499 yuan for the version with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of memory and 3,999 yuan for the 18K version with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of memory.
